
Ms. Cox has been in practice as a clinical social worker since graduating from New York University Shirley Ehrenkranz School of Social Work in 2002 and currently operates a private clinical practice in Mount Vernon, New York. Ms. Cox has postgraduate training in Loss and Bereavement and in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, in addition to over 10 years of experience in the fields of mental health and substance abuse. Ms. Cox also has an MS in Management from Robert Wagner School of Public Service, and is experienced in fund raising, marketing, event planning, program evaluation, program development, and as a social work manager.
Ms. Cox uses a combination of play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and coaching principles with her clients. Methods of treatment include individual counseling, family counseling, and group counseling. Areas of clinical specialty include child and adolescent psychotherapy, parenting training, alcohol and substance abuse education, and managing relationships in the workplace. Ms. Cox also offers training, education, and consultation to businesses and community based organizations.
Ms. Cox is the founding and coordinating clinician of Community Counseling, a consulting firm that establishes linkages between mental health providers and members of the community. She is committed to combating the stigma that surrounds the receipt of mental health service and encourages a “maintaining wellness” approach to mental health. Ms. Cox has exhibited her commitment to practicing as a community based clinician through her participation in several community outreach and community education programs, including involvement in several fundraisers and free training workshops.
